For most young (3–5 years old) children of parents who have come from other countries ECEC settings are the first context in which they come face to face with differences between the culture of home and the public culture of their new country. For parents who have recently im/migrated to a new country enrolling their child in an early childhood program is a key moment where cultural values of their home and adopted culture come into contact and often conflict. For countries with high rates of im/migration ECEC programs are key sites for enacting national goals for social inclusion and the creation of new citizens. And yet the field of early childhood education has conducted too little research on the experience of im/migrant children their families and their teachers.

This book tells the story of our study of beliefs about early childhood education of im/migrant parents and of the practitioners who teach and care for their young children. It is simultaneously a study of im/migration seen from the perspective of early childhood education and of early childhood education seen from the perspective of im/migration. The book answers the questions: What do im/migrant parents want for their children in ECEC programs? How are the perspectives of im/migrant parents like and unalike the perspectives of their children’s preschool teachers and of non-immigrant parents? How are England France Germany Italy and the United States using ECEC settings to incorporate im/migrant children and their families into their new society? What can all five countries do better?

Entre la première trompette offerte à l'âge de douze ans par son père et le remplacement au pied levé du plus illustre membre de l'ensemble du grand Dizzy Gillespie littéralement éberlué par la performance de ce débutant sept ans seulement s'écoulèrent.
L'apprentissage intensif de l'instrument ainsi que l'initiation au piano au vibraphone et à la contrebasse ne s'en étaient pas moins accompagnés d'une scolarisation brillante qui l'avait mené jusqu'à des études mathématiques universitaires.
Six années intenses lui restaient alors à vivre au cours desquelles son lyrisme jubilatoire tout comme la fraîcheur bondissante de son jeu allaient soulever tour à tour l'émerveillement de Fats Navarro la jalousie mesquine de Lionel Hampton l'admiration d'Art Blakey au sein des Jazz Messengers et la complicité enthousiaste de Max Roach Sarah Vaughan et Sonny Rollins avec lesquels il effectua ses derniers concerts et enregistrements.
Avec l'acuité musicale et poétique qu'on lui connaît Alain Gerber retrace ici le parcours exemplaire d'un de ces anges de la musique dont selon Sonny Rollins " les ailes ont porté la musique au niveau supérieur ".

Il secondo è un saggio che con ironia si riallaccia idealmente al precedente “Proposals for printing a very curious discourse intitled Pseudologia politikè or The art of political lying” scritto da un amico di Swift lo scrittore e matematico John Arbuthnot (1667-1735) membro insieme al primo dello Scriblerus Club e che fu dato alle stampe anonimo sul finire del 1712 da Swift stesso e che per tali ragioni all’inizio fu invece erroneamente ritenuto opera dell’autore de “I viaggi di Gulliver”.
